Simon Russell

Biography

Born in Manchester in 1975, Simon’s passion for electronic music began in 1989, inspired by the underground radio shows of the era, including 808 State (Sunset 102) and Stu Allan (Key 103). Recording mixtapes and discovering new sounds quickly became an obsession that shaped a lifelong journey. A defining moment came in 1994 with Renaissance: The Mix Tapes, inspiring Simon to buy his first turntables in 1995. Throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, he played across Manchester at house parties and iconic venues such as Joshua Brooks, FAC 51, Isobar, Code, as well as regularly attending nights at Sankeys Soap and The Phoenix Club, with Progressive House, Techno, and Breakbeat at the core of his sound. Comfortable across genres — from Breakbeat and Drum & Bass to Trance, Techno, and Progressive House . Simon lives by one rule: “Good music is good music.” After a break from the club scene, Simon reconnected in 2024 with the UK Progressive House scene, finding his tribe and returning to regular events across the UK. Over the past year he’s played live for MELOTECH, held radio residencies with SUBCODE and MIXPUB, and delivered multiple guest mixes. Driven from the heart, no two mixes are ever the same. Expect the unexpected.
