Shazz

Harking back to the styles of Levan and Humphries, the spirit of Shazz's sets still stay true to house music's original ideals of wild musical eclecticism and stirring rhythmic intensity that elicit a soulful, spiritual and inspirational vibe. Growing up in New York City meant music figured heavily in Shazz's childhood. Listening to influential radio stations such as KISS-FM and WBLS-FM established a diverse frame of musical reference. In 1994 he discovered the nascent underground house scene in Kuala Lumpur, providing a launch pad for his DJing and igniting his passion for garage and deep house. But it was in 1999 in Nottingham, when he met his mentor (and subsequent DJing partner) Dean Anderson that Shazz's style was shaped into what it is today. In addition to their weekly spot at Drop The Bomb @ The Bomb, Shazz and Dean partnered in a number of other residencies, including monthlies at The Edge, Love 2 Be @ The Mint, and Tyrant (with Craig Richards and Lee Burridge). Their numerous guest stints include DIY's Floppy Disco, Colours @ The Tunnel (Glasgow), Back 2Basics (Leeds) and Life (Boston, US). Shazz's solo guest appearances include Lovezoo @ The Lost Weekend, Progress (Derby), The Que Club (Birmingham) and The Sub Club (Glasgow). In KL, his appearances have included guest spots at Carbon and Emporium, as well as a residency at House Beautiful @ Liquid, a monthly event offering alternative fare for local clubbers, which he also co-promoted with Mark Rajesh. Now in Kuala Lumpur, Shazz continues to promote the "soulful and spiritual worldwide dance music" he is so passionate about through his residencies at the city’s renowned Aristo @ Zouk. In addition to his club performances, Shazz has also played his unique sounds at numerous events for discerning corporate clients looking to position their product to a specific target audience; a number of these had Shazz acting as the event MC as well. Examples of such events are listed below: – Harper’s Bazaar Big Fashion Party – MINI F56 Preview – Volvo S60 “Skills & Thrills” (+ MC) – Vacheron Constantin Egerie launch (+ MC) – Pangkor Laut Resort “An Evening at Emerald Bay” – The Gardens Mall Fashion shows – Apple iMac launch – Guinness Black Party – Aristobeats Fashion shows @ Zouk (+ MC) He has also diversified into “music styling”, compiling and arranging music tailored to specific locations and organisations that include Westin Hotel KL and YTL’s Pangkor Laut and Tanjong Jara Resorts. Music production is another area Shazz has started to delve into, having recently completed a number of remixes, including one of “The Power Within” by Leonard Peter featuring Michelle Weeks on vocals.
