Munya Jumo

‘Munya Jumo’ was born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1986. Growing up with many musical influences varying from traditional and contemporary African music, European and American dance music, thanks to his immediate and extended family who have broad & interesting musical tastes. From a young age, Munya always had a hunger for new cutting edge music, always hunting for fresh and interesting sounds. He has remained flexible with genres even to this day, though his true love lies between techno and house. Whilst schooling in Dublin, Ireland, Munya Jumo started producing electronic music inspiring some friends to start doing the same. When he moved to the UK in 2004, he took a break from making music to complete university, but it was during his master’s programme in London that he became inspired and started making music again. He soon started spending most of his time teaching himself how to produce music, going out, networking, exploring the nightlife in London and really fell in love with the underground music scene. It was in 2013 that he decided to concentrate on DJing and music production which led him to start his own events called ‘Positive Frequency’ in a spacious basement in the heart of East London. The feedback from the events was fantastic and he feels that he has started something that will continue growing whilst maintaining the vibe of positivity, love, depth and expansion. An avid music collector with a penchant for wowing even the seasoned clubber/raver when he DJs, Munya Jumo is also working on his productions and is set to release some great records in the near future and beyond.
