Biography

Deeply entrenched with more than 25 years in the music industry, Phil Moonface Thompson is transcendent with hope and positivity. His perpetual rebirth over the last few years sees Phil’s online catalogue growing with a stack of Moonface releases not forgetting remixes and Dj compilations. Selected Dj bookings in Bristol for the Prog Lab boys, locally in Southampton, moving to gigs abroad still supporting vinyl where possible. Regular 6-hour sets at the coolest place to play in Tbilisi Georgia called TIVI bar, whose reputation precedes them. Tbilisi is fast becoming the go to Techno destination with a growing reputation for cutting edge local artists and strict music policies in such clubs as the world famous Bassiani. His reputation taking shape with his first residency around 1996 in Southampton at The Rhino Club. Then moving onto regular slots for Panache and Ménage A Trois, who held their regular legendary boat parties for many years hosting the best Dj's around at the time. Culminating in him warming up for Sasha and John Digweed at their infamous Northern Exposure nights. That exposure to the superstars saw Sasha choosing “U Get So Give” for his legendary Essential Mix 2000 and via then Bedrock warm up guru, Danny Howells (an early Moonface fan), John Digweed signing “Futurized Fears” and “Overactive” as a double A side for his then new Bedrock label. Following the first 12” came a mini album called ‘BETWEEN WORLDS’ on all formats selling out globally way before the digital age just before the Internet. Many top Dj's from Lee Burridge to Danny Tenaglia, Hernan Cattaneo to Cold Cut supported the Moonface sound back in the golden age. Phil then became the new Bedrock resident covering about 5 years warming up monthly in Brighton and London replacing Howells. As well as touring the globe playing at many festivals and events flying the Bedrock flag. Playing hot spots in Bali, Japan, Russia, Eastern Europe, Greece, Malta, UK, Scotland and South America. Holding up a long-term residency at the Decadance club Thessaloniki, Greece. After taking a hiatus from DJ’ing and concentrating on improving production skills, Phil homed in his talents continued to put in many hours of studio time making endless cutting edge dance tracks throughout the last decade. Resulting in his work being included on Bedrock Frequencies compilation curated by John Digweed in 2017 with his single ‘Across the Gulf of Space. Also releases and remixes for Krafted, Tulipa, Gibbon and Mirabilis, Wolf Trap. Including label compilation mixes for ASTIR, Gibbon and Tulipa Recordings to add to his already glittering back catalogue. June 2019 sees the most recent compilation mixed by Phil called FREAKIN’ PROGRESSIVE VOL.1 on label Freakin303. 2019 sees Phil hosting his FUTURIZED monthly show on New York’s Frisky Radio and presenting his vinyl sets each month on ever-growing streaming site GOAT SHED. On top of that discreetly working with some local producers jamming out some new Techno creations in the pipeline later in the year. Not forgetting his latest signing to the Abstract Dance label run by London’s legendary Dj Colin Dale, ‘Moonface - Lok’Dubb’ will be out around August 2019. Currently turning down remixes to focus on new Moonface productions with the aim to release a new album early 2020. Phil is able to showcase a multitude of sounds and styles in his Dj sets: “People that know me know I’m a multi-genre DJ. I’ve been into everything from Tech House, Progressive, Drum and Bass, Dubb Step, Reggae, Hip, Hop, Breaks, Electro, to House, Techno and Chill out.” He says.
