Leandro Fresco

Biography

The output of self-described non-musician Leandro Fresco ranges from ambient to commercial pop. A native of Buenos Aires, he began making music in his teen years and released his first album, a set of experimental electronic tracks titled "Cápsula", impulsed by argentinian electronic master Daniel Melero, in 1998. Years later, he and latin american rock legend Gustavo Cerati forged a long-term creative partnership. Fresco performed as a member of Cerati's backing band, assisted him with recording sessions -- a commercial peak achieved with contributions to Shakira's Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 -- and joined Cerati's former band Soda Stereo for international touring purposes, in 2007. All the while, Fresco recorded as a solo artist and started a relationship with german label Kompakt, "Amor Internacional" was released in 2002, and remain as one of the best releases of the label to date, as Michael Mayer declared many times. Also released the uniformly low-key but stylistically diverse "Luz Sin Calor" (2005), the contemporary pop/rock-oriented Leandro Fresco (2014), and the all-ambient "El Reino Invisible" (2015). The latest of that series was released again by Cologne, Germany's Kompakt label, and was the first release of Kompakt's sub label specialized in ambient curated by master mind Wolfgang Voigt. Leandro had previously showcased his ambient side on 12" and on four of their annual Pop Ambient compilations. He also perform as a dj.
