Biography
DJ Cool Carla started as a radio DJ back in 1986 for a New Wave/Punk station WXB 102.7 in Manila Philippines, introducing underground music to the FM airwaves. She then went on to join a Gothic band called Identity Crisis, as a singer and songwriter. Identity Crisis became one of the pioneering alternative bands in the Philippines. Their albums “Tale of Two” (1987) and "Water Came Running" (1991), has reshaped Philippine music and earned a tremendous amount of respect from their musical colleagues, mainly for the bands “ahead of their time” songwriting and arrangements. In 1992, Identity Crisis disbanded and Carla went on to DJ for a rock/alternative station DWLA 105.9 for 4 years. In the same year, Carla joined the ethnic-rock band Lokal Brown, composed of members from other celebrated rock/underground bands, releasing one album called "Ikalawang Yugto" (1993). In 1994, Carla formed Mariya's Mistress, a rock band, releasing their only album called "Unang Pag-Agos" (1995), which garnered good reviews in Billboard Magazine USA. Also in the mid nineties, Carla became a record producer for several underground bands in Manila. Her radio DJ and band stint ended in 1999 when she decided to study at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, USA. After which she became a chef, running her own catering business for 10 years. In 2009, she found another passion. Photography. She has then grown as a photographer, specializing in Fine Art Nude, Portraits, Street and Travel Photography. In 2010, she started her own podcast called The Chill Out Sessions. To date, there are more than 30 mixes available in her podcast page and iTunes, for streaming and downloading. The Chill Out Sessions is most popular in USA, UK, Germany, Brazil, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, China, Australia, Italy, Russia and Canada.
