Cobe-Cobe

Cobe-Cobe is a producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist currently developing an organic house and downtempo project. He signed releases to Cosmic Awakenings, kośa musica, Tibetania Records, LiLDream and Camel VIP. A group hypnosis of desert, jungle and metropolis feels, always underpinned by a deep percussive groove, “Cobe-Cobe” [ko-be ko-be] is the noise of a talking drum, the low-frequency kick-bass heard outside the club, the pre-dawn chorus of birds, the rasp of analogue filters, a universal sound with different names. Musical beginnings came when a childhood mentor taught him to improvise at the piano, then Celtic folk sessions, classical and jazz harmonies from Mingus to Stravinsky, tinkering with the original Cubase VST, establishing himself as a double bassist on his local scene, eventually led to studying composition at a UK conservatoire. Through this, he became captivated by the two sides of music - the hypnotic beat and the ethereal melody, the mind and the heart, harmony and the groove, the voice and the kick, apollo and dionysus, celestial beings and earthly roots. Mesmerised by the experience of making others dance, he started to understand how the two went together - the cyber-spirit of beat-making was part of the beautiful geometry of music. Pursuing the groovy side of music, he learned the art of mixing vinyl, leading to first gigs playing UK breakbeat. Electronic production skills developed, tastes refined over the years, and he started collecting sounds wherever he travelled, from Colombia to Tulum, London to Amsterdam, to founding the Catlocarpio collective in Cambodia, and recording traditional music in the Tibetan highlands. A new sonic chapter opened at the Polygon stage of Wonderfruit in 2018 in Thailand, leading him to start the Cobe-Cobe project. The Polygon sound system opened-up new sonic doors and he was pulled into chasing this new audio territory. After several years of careful work in the studio finishing dozens of unreleased tracks, and after multi-directional explorations and much cross-pollination, Cobe-Cobe began releasing music, moving towards a consistent artistic vision of dance-floor readiness, drawing from a more selective tonal palette and live acoustic instruments. In 2024, Cobe-Cobe starts to release music in earnest, aiming for authenticity and professionalism in manifesting a musical vision.
